Hey there,
I’m sure you’ve seen the news about the devastating wildfires in Hawaii.
As of this morning, at least 93 people have died, and thousands more have lost their homes. Lahaina — once the capital of the kingdom of Hawaii — has been almost completely decimated.
Here’s what the government is doing about it:
President Biden has declared a federal emergency, dedicating resources to help with relief and recovery efforts.
And Governor Newsom has also sent search and rescue personnel to help with emergency operations in the most impacted areas.
But the people of Hawaii are going to need more than that — they’re going to need our help to rebuild and recover.
As we know all too well in California, wildfires can wipe out entire communities in a matter of hours, and rebuilding is a long, difficult process. Hawaiians are going to need our support in the weeks, months, and years ahead.
As we face the impacts of the climate crisis across America, we must continue to stand in solidarity with each other.
