On Tuesday,?Lt. Governor Jon Husted spoke at the inaugural Columbus State Community College ?IT Night,? which aims to serve as the premier outreach and engagement event to raise awareness for the IT Flexible Internship program. The Lt. Governor attended to help promote tech careers and other opportunities for people wishing to upgrade their skills and move their career forward successfully without attending a four-year college or university.
On Wednesday, Governor Mike DeWine spoke at the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation (OFBF) Ag Day at the Capitol.? Governor DeWine was joined by?Ohio Department of Agriculture Director Dorothy Pelanda and OFBF Executive Vice President Adam Sharp to discuss the H2Ohio water quality initiative, agricultural trade, and other key issues for the farming community.
On Wednesday evening, Governor DeWine attended the Ohio Corn & Wheat?Growers Association, and presented the Ohio Champion Corn Yield Contest award.?
On Wednesday, Lt. Governor Husted announced that the next application round for the popular TechCred program will begin on March 2nd. The program gives employers the chance to fill open technology-oriented positions with current or prospective employees by enrolling them in career training through an area institution and promoting or hiring the worker once they?ve completed the necessary training. On?Thursday,?Governor DeWine met with?Ambassador Dani Dayan, Consul General of Israel in New York. The discussion focused on how to create new economic opportunities for Ohio and Israel.
On Thursday,?Governor DeWine presented the?Ohio Distinguished Service Medal to Col. Guion Bluford, United States Air Force (Retired), for his lifetime achievements in service to the state and nation.?
Col. Bluford, of Westlake, flew 144 combat missions in South Vietnam as a pilot in the United States Air Force. He went on to earn a master's degree and doctorate degree in aerospace engineering at the Air Force Institute of Technology at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. Col. Bluford later entered the space program at NASA and became first African American astronaut to travel to space in 1983.
On Thursday, Lt. Governor Husted delivered the keynote address at the Central Region SuccessBound Conference where he promoted the state?s Industry Sector Partnership program to strengthen ties between businesses and academic institutions in order to ensure students are job-ready as soon as they complete the program. Following his remarks, the Lt. Governor was interviewed by a Delaware-Area Career Center student who reports for the student newspaper.
On Friday,?Governor DeWine signed House Bill?129, which allows individuals to wear earphones or earplugs for hearing protection while operating a motorcycle.
