[[link removed]]Dear John,

Boris Johnson is our Prime Minister and he’s chosen his inner circle. As far as
our rights and freedoms are concerned, the appointments make for grim reading.

* The Prime Minister wants to boost the use of racist stop and search and voted
to get rid of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights.
* The Home Secretary, Priti Patel, has expressed support for the death penalty
and consistently voted against basic human rights protections.
* The Foreign Secretary, Dominic Raab, is just one of a number of high-profile
cabinet members who want to scrap the Human Rights Act.

Our human rights are not theirs to throw away. Thankfully the Human Rights Act

[[link removed]]For 20 years, the Human Rights Act has been used by ordinary people – soldiers,
people in care, journalists, disabled people, workers, children – to defend
their rights and hold the powerful to account.

It’s protected our right to protest and pray, to think what we like and say what
we think, and to keep our private lives private. It’s forced the police to do a
better job investigating crime and helped people like the Hillsborough families
uncover the truth and fight for justice.

But our rights and freedoms are not safe in this Government’s hands.

It’s never been more vital that everyone knows their rights. This is why we’re
giving away our pocket-sized guide to the Human Rights Act. [Insert hyperlink]

Know your rights: stand up to power.

Best wishes,

Martha Spurrier

Director
