Hi John -- It’s Coby, Will’s campaign manager.

Election Day may seem far off (451 days, to be exact), but in a race as close as ours, every single day counts. As a valued member of our team, we want to make sure you’re in the loop on where things stand. That’s why I wanted to send you this strategy memo laying out the state of the race here in CA-41.

State of the Race in California’s 41st District

CA-41 is a toss up that could determine House control.
Currently, Democrats hold a +3,000 voter registration advantage in CA-41. That’s a big reason why non-partisan elections analysts at the Cook Political Report moved our race from "Lean Republican" to "Toss up."

Will can unify Democrats, Republicans and Independents.
In the last election cycle, Will stood out by outperforming high-profile Democrats in CA-41 -- including Governor Gavin Newsom and Senator Alex Padilla. This was done by attracting Republican and Independent voters who were fed up with Ken Calvert's corruption. For context, Will was the sole Democratic challenger in California to win the majority of Independents in 2022. We’re going to build on that success in 2024.

Ken Calvert's anti-LGBTQ+ past is a major liability.
CA-41 is home to one of the largest LGBTQ+ populations in the country. Despite this, Calvert has one of the worst anti-LGBTQ+ records in Congress. Just last month, Calvert voted to defund housing and services to the LGBTQ+ community. Will, on the other hand, would make history as the first openly gay member of Congress to represent Palm Springs. In Congress, he will fight for the rights of all Americans.

Our early fundraising is strong (thanks to you!).
In our first six weeks, Will raised over $890,000 from 4,300+ donors. Over 90% of our donations were less than $100, and $0 came in from corporate PACs. That’s huge and a testament to our grassroots strength.

We need to be prepared for an onslaught of GOP attacks.
This week, a super PAC aligned with Kevin McCarthy announced plans to spend $100+ million across blue-state swing districts like CA-41. Ken Calvert is also quietly raking in massive sums of special interest cash. His reported cash on hand is over $1.5 million -- $700,000 more than Will has. According to reports, our race could become one of the most expensive in the state, if not the country.

John, I hope this gave you some insight into where things stand on the ground. If you can, please make a donation o f$3 – or whatever amount you can today.

Thanks for your support,

Coby Eiss
Campaign Manager

P.S. I know the emails asking for donations pile up, and your inbox gets crowded. But, more individual donations come to our campaign through emails and texts than any other channel we have, so we appreciate you sticking with us and being a part of the grassroots team. Thank you!
