This is our opportunity to protect the world’s forests, John
John,
Back in 2019, climate scientists warned that the Amazon rainforest was nearing an “irreversible tipping point.” They cautioned that without swift action, our planet’s largest rainforest would soon be incapable of producing enough rain to sustain itself — and it would release billions of tons of carbon into the atmosphere as a result.
Now, over four years later, we’re seeing massive drops in deforestation not just in the Amazon, but across Southeast Asia as well. The “lungs” of our planet may finally have a chance to heal — and it’s all thanks to global conservation efforts to protect our critical ecosystems.
Let the Amazon be a litmus test: When we increase deforestation law enforcement, peatland restoration, fire mitigation efforts, and farming bans in at-risk areas, we can reverse the dangerous trends in our rainforests.
But despite the cautious optimism in South America, we know that we can’t just pick and choose our climate battles. In order to slash global emissions, we have to put in the work in our own backyards, too.
That’s why at SEEC, we’re committed to running an all-systems approach to tackling climate change. From spearheading land conservation efforts through the 2023 Farm Bill to slashing carbon emissions using the funds from the Inflation Reduction Act, we’re taking important steps to reaching President Biden’s climate goals.
Thanks to your help in 2022, SEEC PAC was able to re-elect over 95% of our pro-environment members to the U.S. House of Representatives — defying the odds on a night where Democrats lost seats. Now we are counting on you to help our SEEC members pass climate, clean energy and environmental justice policies in the 118th Congress while we continue fighting for a sustainable future. But if you'd like to receive fewer emails, we understand. You can click here to only get our most important messages, or you can unsubscribe.
