This is a longer email, but it’s important, so I hope you’ll read it to the end. If you’re already up-to-date on the fight to expand Medicaid in North Carolina, you can go ahead and sign my petition to decouple Medicaid Expansion from the budget here.
Fighting for North Carolinians’ access to health care has been a priority of mine as governor, John.
The folks in our state deserve quality, affordable, accessible health care — which is why Democrats have spent the last decade or so fighting to pass Medicaid Expansion into law.
Until earlier this year, Republicans blocked it over and over again. But when GOP legislators finally agreed to come to the table, we worked together to pass a framework for Medicaid Expansion. That was a big deal.
However, Republicans unnecessarily insisted upon tying Expansion to passing the budget — and now, despite their one-seat supermajority in the General Assembly, GOP legislators can’t seem to do their jobs and agree on a budget!
John, this delay is costing North Carolina in so many ways. It’s wasting tax dollars. It’s forcing rural health centers to close.
It’s already ripping away health care from thousands of North Carolinians who were able to get coverage during the pandemic but who are losing it now because the federal emergency order has expired. Medicaid Expansion would cover many of those people if the legislature would just let it start. We’ve ALREADY AGREED TO IT for goodness' sake.
Where is the concern from the Republican leadership for these families who are losing their health care coverage? We need a budget and we need to expand Medicaid. Please, sign on if you agree >>>
Thank you for speaking out,
Roy
