A few days ago, my friend David Hogg reached out to announce the launch of Leaders We Deserve, a grassroots organization dedicated to electing young leaders across the country.

In the aftermath of the Parkland shooting, David Hogg and fellow students from Marjorie Stoneman Douglas stepped up when elected officials wouldn’t. They demanded action and helped pass crucial gun safety legislation in Florida. These brave young students took on politicians who had been content with inaction, and I ran for office because I too was sick of empty promises.

I have met many of the Majorie Stoneman Douglas students through their individual activism and through March for Our Lives. I am so proud of the work that David Hogg and fellow March for Our Lives leaders have already accomplished, and I am so excited to see their work continue.

These young leaders have been at the forefront of the fight for gun safety. They’ve taken action on this critical issue facing the next generation and have helped so many other young people follow their lead. Leaders We Deserve is dedicated to electing young people like them to office. We deserve leaders who are passionate about the things they’re legislating and have the drive and the courage to fight for what’s right. I am honored to stand with them today.
