I’m super excited to share that my new bill - The DisaporaLink Act - just unanimously passed through the House Energy & Commerce Committee!

Let me tell you more about this legislation and why it’s so important:

Right now, the U.S. lacks a direct fiber optic link to Africa, a continent burgeoning with economic opportunities. Our reliance on other countries to connect to Africa puts us in a compromising position and presents many national security challenges.

That’s what my new legislation aims to fix. By creating a DisaporaLink between the U.S. Virgin Islands and the continent of Africa, we can transform into a global digital commerce hub, generate high-tech jobs for Virgin Islanders, and even attract more tourism.

I’m so proud that this legislation passed with bipartisan support through committee and I’m going to keep pushing until it’s on the President’s desk for his signature.
