African elephant populations are in steep decline, and we must act fast to ensure their survival in the wild. Thankfully, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service proposed a rule late last year that would better regulate imports of African elephants and their parts—such as hunting trophies—to the U.S., helping to prevent the senseless killing of these animals, further protecting them from extinction.

Since the early 20th century, the number of elephants in Africa has plummeted from nearly five million to approximately 400,000. The killing of African elephants for trophies is putting these majestic creatures at grave risk.

This is the perfect time to make your voice heard in favor of better protection for elephants. Current regulations are simply not strong enough, which is why the new USFWS rule is so important.

Trophy hunting is a horrific practice that should no longer be tolerated. But while we advocate ending trophy hunting for good, we are determined to see new regulations implemented to mitigate the serious harm that trophy hunting causes. This proposed rule from USFWS would be an improvement, and we’ve been fighting for stronger regulations like this for years.
