UNFPA’s humanitarian action in Niger includes lifesaving services such as family planning, maternal health care, and support for survivors of violence, as well as awareness raising, delivery of supplies, and capacity-strengthening initiatives.
In 2021 alone, gifts from supporters provided:
- 18,240 UNFPA-assisted safe deliveries
- 53 safe spaces for women and girls
- 25,779 people with family planning services
- 240,450 women with sexual and reproductive health services
But the rising tensions in Niger have created a heightened risk for women and girls. Escalating violence and displacement can heighten the risk of harmful practices like violence against women and disrupt access to basic services, including sexual and reproductive health care.
Additionally, Niger is already one of the regions with the highest levels of child marriage — 76% of girls in Niger are married before their 18th birthday. During challenging times, these rates often increase.
We’re making contingency plans to keep delivering our lifesaving services and ensure women have access to the care they need, no matter where they live. But this isn’t possible without the support of private donors, like you, so millions of women and girls are counting on you today.
Will you make a gift to ensure the needs of women and girls aren’t overlooked amidst the rising tensions? Most supporters are giving $55.
Thank you for your endless support. We will remain vigilant and update you as we are able.
