They were near the floating anti-migrant barrier recently installed by Gov. Greg Abbott. The barrier is another example of the deadly impact of border militarization, which has cost thousands of migrant lives. At a New Jersey women’s group, survivors find healing and support: Every month, a group of women gather at AFSC’s office in Newark, New Jersey. All are immigrants who moved to the U.S. for a better life. Most are survivors of domestic abuse. Many are mothers who’ve worked to keep their families together.
