Hey, John, I'm Veronica Escobar, U.S. representative of Texas' 16th Congressional District. In a moment, I'm going to ask you to support my friend Colin Allred in his race against Ted Cruz, but first I'd like to take a moment to explain why your support is so important.

As a third-generation El Pasoan, I can confidently say: Colin is a true Texan. He's not afraid to get his hands dirty to fight for what's right – and we desperately need leadership like that in the Senate.

I got to know Colin when we were both elected to Congress in 2018, helping Democrats flip the House blue. He overcame impossible odds to unseat an 11-term Republican in that race – that's one big reason I believe he's the guy to take on Ted Cruz in 2024.

But this is expected to be one of the most competitive and expensive races in the country, and Colin needs a historic outpouring of support to compete with Ted Cruz and his special interest allies.

Ted Cruz's extremist policies are increasingly out of touch with what everyday Texans want and need. 

He's campaigned against affordable health care, supported anti-choice legislation that puts women's lives at risk, tried to deny members of the LGBTQ community the right to be who they are and love who they love. And perhaps worst of all, he's repeatedly sided with the gun lobby and voted against lifesaving legislation even as our state has been plagued by mass shootings.

It's time to hold Ted Cruz accountable, and Colin Allred is the person for the job. In Congress, Colin is a voice of reason. No matter who he's working with, he has a way of bringing the temperature of a heated discussion down and leading members of both parties to pragmatic, commonsense solutions. 

I know that Colin can defeat Ted Cruz – experts from Roll Call to the Cook Political Report have all upgraded our chances since he launched his campaign. But it's going to take a Texas-sized movement of grassroots support to power a campaign as competitive as this, so please:
