CFT back to school tour kicks off with Jefferson AFT Federation of Teachers
On Monday CFT President Jeff Freitas, Council of Classified Employees President Carl Williams, and EC/TK-12 Council President Steve McDougall visited Westmoor High School in Daly City to kick off the CFT 2023 Back to School Tour.
With hundreds of members of Jefferson Union Federation of Teachers, AFT Local 1481, gathered to attend workshops and orientations to kick off their school year, Jeff Freitas spoke about our statewide organizing efforts to address the staffing crisis in our schools. Monica Casey, President of Local 1481, spoke of their local victories including staff housing and the importance of continuing to organize.
The tour continued with stops at the Poway Federation of Teachers, where CFT officers welcomed new members into the union at a new member orientation meeting, and at the Yuba College Federation of Teachers, where officers took part in a rally and speakout at the college’s board of trustees meeting that included both full and part time staff, with a commitment by both unions to support one another in ongoing contract talks (pictured above).

National WEP/GPO Repeal Task Force Webinars August 14 and 17
The National WEP/GPO Repeal Task Force will hold two 45-minute webinars next week to discuss ongoing organizing efforts to repeal the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and the Government Pension Offset (GPO), which take hard-earned Social Security
benefits from many public employees.
We are closer than we have ever been to the passage of legislation that will end these unjust penalties, which impact well over two million retirees. But there is much more work to be done.

Additionally, the task force will host a national gathering on September 13 in Washington, D.C. Details here.
