REDUCING OUR $32-TRILLION NATIONAL DEBT Our current fiscal trajectory is unsustainable and financially irresponsible. Our families and communities are feeling the burden of uncontrolled spending and rising deficits. We must take action to rein in our national debt and prevent future generations from shouldering this insurmountable burden. Serving on the House Ways and Means Committee, I am working to implement commonsense spending reforms and promote policies that encourage economic growth and reduce our crippling national debt. Our debt crisis threatens our economic security Our nation is more than $31.4 trillion in debt. It is a figure so daunting that it seems almost insurmountable to resolve. To put this number into perspective, every American taxpayer - already facing record-high inflation, skyrocketing interest... For the sake of our economy and our families, I've supported legislation to push back against China and ban our adversaries from buying American farmland. China has no business buying our farmland — period. Read more about my work to stand up to China below! Feenstra: U.S. needs restraints on China-owned farmland China constitutes a serious threat to American prosperity and our national security. In their attempts to diminish our strength on the world stage, the Chinese Communist Party has deployed spy Read more www.nwestiowa.com SUPPORTING THE NEXT GENERATION OF FARMERS New and beginning farmers face major hurdles in today’s bleak economy — and rising costs don’t help. That’s why I introduced the Crop Insurance for Future Farmers Act to lower costs for our young producers and keep Iowa farmland in the hands of Iowa farmers. Farmland costs rise, pricing young farmers out of the... As the average age of farmers continues to grow, farmers worry about replacing the next generation of food producers when many struggle to afford land and farm equipment. In Congress, I will always be a strong voice for businesses across the 4th District, like Blue Bunny, that help grow our local economies and support our families. FARM BILL MEETING WITH IOWA FARMERS This week, my staff met with producers about the upcoming Farm Bill at the Perdue Family Farm in Carson. The input of folks like Dave Sieck and Chris Perdue — who serve on my Agriculture Advisory Board — and all farmers across the 4th District is vital to passing a strong Farm Bill for Iowa. OPENING NEW MARKETS FOR IOWA AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTS When it comes to exporting perishable goods, the world lacks sufficient cold-storage facilities. That's why I introduced the FRIDGE Act, which will help develop infrastructure to ship our beef, chicken, turkey, pork, grains, and other goods worldwide. Opening New Export Markets for Iowa Farmers and... Food production is an arduous industry. Between high input costs and regulatory barriers to economic uncertainty and supply-chain bottlenecks, farming has only become more difficult than it already is, pinching Read more carrollspaper.com ONE LAST THING: BEWARE OF IRS SCAMMERS Beware of new fraudulent IRS tactics that scammers are using on unsuspecting taxpayers. Scammers impersonate the IRS by phone or email, in person, or by mail or delivery service to try and trick people out of their money. 1. Scammers can pose as the IRS by mail. One of the newest and more devious schemes involves mail coming in a cardboard envelope from either a delivery service or the United States Postal Service (USPS). The enclosed letter includes the IRS masthead and wording that the notice is "in relation to your unclaimed refund." This scheme seeks sensitive personal information from taxpayers – including driver’s license photos – that can be used by identity thieves to steal your refund and other sensitive financial information. 2. Spot when it’s a scammer at the door and not the IRS. Scam artists may appear at the door posing as IRS agents. To help combat these scams, the IRS recently announced that it is ending most unannounced visits to taxpayers by agency revenue officers. In place of the unannounced visits, revenue officers will instead contact taxpayers through an appointment letter, known as a 725-B Letter, and schedule a follow-up meeting. 3. Scammers may contact taxpayers electronically. Remember: the IRS never initiates contact regarding a bill or tax refund by email, text or social media. MY WEEKLY COLUMN: THE SORRY STATE OF THE BIDEN ECONOMY On metric after metric, President Biden’s economic agenda – which he has coined “Bidenomics” – has failed our families, farmers, small businesses, and rural communities. American families have accrued more than one trillion dollars in credit card debt for the first time ever, mortgage rates have hit a 23-year high, inflation increased in July, and gas prices are once again spiking. Even more alarming, Fitch Ratings – one of the largest credit rating agencies in the United States – recently downgraded American creditworthiness, citing our worsening fiscal health and ballooning national debt. We must restore fiscal responsibility and end wasteful spending immediately. Read more in my weekly column below!
