The great Harry Belafonte once said “When the music is strong, the movement is strong.” We couldn’t agree more with Mr. Belafonte as CPD’s signature fundraiser, The Guiding Light Awards, is just over one month away on Tuesday, March 31 in Washington, DC. While we’re honoring a few powerful organizations and individuals for their role in supporting the movement, the night wouldn’t be a celebration without the incredible lineup of entertainers we have!

Along with over 300 philanthropists, frontline organizers, strategic partners and allies, J. PERIOD and Mumu Fresh will join us to create a very special Live Mixtape, performed and recorded live on stage in one take. Their unique Live Mixtape experience will be curated especially for us and will be inspired by the work of the CPD Network and our Guiding Light awardees. As a master craftsman and musical storyteller, J.PERIOD’s work connects cultures, eras and styles. He’s been hailed as a “music guru” by Rolling Stone and called "the most creative mixtape producer of all-time” by music icon, Questlove. And artist Maimouna Youssef, also known as “Mumu Fresh” is a grammy-nominated singer, MC, songwriter, activist and acclaimed hip hop artist. You won’t want to miss this one-of-a-kind performance. Learn more about our special guests here.

More than anything, CPD’s Guiding Light Awards is an opportunity to reinvigorate our commitment to fighting for a future where all of us have the freedom to thrive.
I hope you’ll join me, the CPD Network and friends of our movement as we celebrate our honorees and their work to empower and activate the communities most impacted by injustice and inequality. Get your tickets today to join me on Tuesday, March 31!
