Survey available now to report annual Affordable and Supportive Housing tax collections and use
Background
The 2019 Encouraging Investments in Affordable and Supportive Housing Act (RCW 82.14.540) authorized a new state-shared local tax for investments in affordable and supportive housing.
Affordable and Supportive Housing Sales and Use Tax revenue can be used for many affordable housing activities to benefit households with incomes at 60% or less of the Area Median Income, including new construction, acquisition and preservation/rehabilitation. Some jurisdictions may also use the revenue to provide rent assistance for income-eligible households.
Counties and cities receiving revenue from the Affordable and Supportive Housing Sales and Use Tax must report annually to the Department of Commerce on the collection and use of that revenue.
Action requested by Oct. 1, 2023
Jurisdictions receiving Affordable and Supportive Housing Sales Tax distributions are asked to submit their annual expenditure and assistance report by completing an online survey titled the "Affordable & Supportive Housing (1406) Report."
