Republicans’ latest attempt to gut the EPA’s power plant rule is a testament to how deep Big Oil is in their pockets

John,

Remember when we predicted that legal battle on the Environmental Protection Agency’s latest power plant rule? Well, it looks like legal action could be happening sooner rather than later.

Senate Republicans have already hashed out their plan of attack on the EPA’s power plant rule. Not only did they write a letter to the EPA Administrator claiming the agency has “grossly misinterpreted the scope of authority Congress granted under [the Clean Air Act]” — they’ve introduced legislation to completely overturn the power plant rule.

Republicans are gearing up to play offense and defense here, John. They’ve made it clear that if they can’t pass their legislation to overturn this power plant rule, they will take it to court.

SEEC Co-Chairs Paul Tonko, Doris Matsui, and Mike Quigley have been leading the charge to protect the power plant rule. They recently rallied 100 members of Congress to tell the EPA it needs to finish the job as quickly as possible to protect the rule from Republican attack.

Getting the EPA’s proposal on the books will be a make-or-break for our aggressive climate goals, so we can’t let Republicans force us into a backslide here. John, will you help SEEC gear up for another fierce clean energy fight by making a $25 contribution?

We’re standing at the precipice of a huge climate breakthrough, John. The EPA’s proposed regulation, combined with the clean energy funds from the Inflation Reduction Act, the administration’s plans to transition to electric vehicles, and efforts to curb methane leaks from oil and gas wells, would put us back on track to meet our Paris climate goals by 2030 if implemented.

Help us build our warchest so we can fight back against the anti-climate Republicans and continue pushing forward to meet our clean energy goals by rushing a contribution today.

We’ll be in touch with more updates soon.
