For the third time and the most of any former president, Donald Trump has been indicted on criminal charges.
This case is the biggest case against him we’ve seen so far. Finally, he’s being held accountable for his attempts to directly undermine the 2020 election and incite a deadly riot on January 6th at the U.S. Capitol.
Let’s be clear: Trump and Republicans attacked the very foundations of our democracy and sowed doubt into our free and fair election process.
Here’s why this indictment really matters: Because it shows that no one—even a former president—is above the law.
His effort to hinder a peaceful transition of power, undermining the will of the American people, was an unprecedented attack on our freedoms. And he used it to spark a violent and deadly insurrection in the halls of Congress.
Accountability, not just for the rioters but for those who incited them, is necessary to uphold our democratic values and strengthen the foundation of our elections.
