The usual suspects that seek to control our elections and elected officials will try their hardest to stop this campaign from making the change we so desperately need to see in our community.
Some are already attacking me, saying that I am not committed to the work. Well, as I always say, “don’t tell me what you believe, show me what you’ve done, and I will tell you what you believe”.
My record as Mayor, now in my seventh year, speaks to my commitment to push progressive change forward.
My work as Director of the Georgia Sierra Club, and as a Labor Organizer with the Georgia AFL-CIO shows my commitment to environmental protection and workers' rights.
My service on the DeKalb Board of Health, and my filing as a plaintiff in the voting systems lawsuit, shows my commitment to a healthier community, and fairer elections.
My work of helping elect Democrats in Georgia for the last 15 years, shows my commitment to moving our country forward into a brighter future, not backward into a remnant of a bygone era.
My diligence in speaking up for refugees, immigrants and asylum seekers, shows my compassion for the stranger, for building a community that values equity, diversity, and inclusion.
The attacks are just the beginning of what we expect to see from the entrenched interests that have dominated our politics for years. We need to be ready for whatever they throw at us – and that means we have to have the resources necessary to act!
