Three years ago today, Kamala Harris joined the ticket as my running mate.
Picking Kamala as my eventual vice president was one of the best decisions I made as a presidential nominee.
I learned from my friend Barack Obama what to look for: Someone to be a partner in progress. Someone who shares the same perspective on how we view the challenges the country faces. Someone who will fight for the American people every day on the job.
That’s what led me to Kamala. Her record of accomplishment -- fighting tooth and nail for what’s right. And since that day, she’s demonstrated that she was the perfect choice.
Kamala stepped up to help pass the most significant federal gun safety legislation in nearly three decades.
She has been at the forefront of our work to protect abortion rights, especially in the aftermath of the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade.
And thanks in large part to her energizing presence on the campaign trail in the midterms, Democrats won tough races all over the country -- securing our Senate majority and delivering the best midterm election results for any first-term Democratic president in the last 40 years.
I know Kamala personally, and I can tell you one thing for sure: She is just getting started. When Kamala joined the ticket this time three years ago, we saw a massive outpouring of grassroots support, which helped sustain our campaign all the way to the finish line -- because you and I both know this: Kamala is committed to doing everything she can to help the American people get ahead. I’m proud to be working alongside her.
