Ever since the Coalition Against Hunger was founded in 1996, we've hosted our annual Race Against Hunger (formerly known as the Walk Against Hunger) in order to to elevate the challenge of food insecurity, to raise funds in support of our life-changing work, and to provide a platform for local food pantries and soup kitchens to do the same. After a three year break from holding an in-person event and having to go virtual, we are so excited to have the 27th Annual Race Against Hunger at the Navy Yard

We've been reminiscing about the past 26 years as we've been planning this year's event. Enjoy this trip down memory lane, and register today to join us on September 30th for the 5K that strengthens food access across Philadelphia! If you can't attend on Sept. 30th, you can still make an impact by registering to walk, run, or bike whenever and wherever is most convenient for you.

Not a 5K person? Please make a donation to support our work building a community where all people have the food they need to lead healthy lives.

This budget includes some exciting provisions that will increase food security for Pennsylvania students! Free Summer Meals For Kids & Teens

As we get closer to the start of the school year, many free summer meals sites for kids and teens are beginning to close. Check out our Summer Meals Map or give our Summer Meals Hotline a call at 215-770-4659 to find the closest locations to you, their hours, and their end dates. We will continue updating our map until September.

Our Summer Meals Hotline is staffed from 9am-5pm Monday-Thursday and 9am-4pm on Friday.

Coalition Team News

On July 26th, our Executive Director, Melody Keim, was a panelist at the CLC Symposium: Together We Are One - Empowering Communities with an Umbrella of Support. She joined George Matysik, the Executive Director of Share Food Program, to address food insecurity in Philadelphia communities. Thank you to the Philadelphia System of Care for hosting this symposium and inviting Melody to speak!

We are excited to share that Samara Metz-Reynolds, formerly our Communications Coordinator, has now become our Communications Manager. Please join us in congratulating Samara on her new title!

SNAP Hotline in Action

We recently assisted a client who was  homebound and receives SNAP benefits. They had run out of food in their home and had unfortunately run out of SNAP benefits for the month. This client called us to ask for some assistance finding food pantries that could deliver food. We were able to get them connected to Food Connect, and Food Connect was able to deliver this client enough food to get by until the next SNAP payment. They called us back to thank us, and we were able to help get them connected to other food delivery services such as Meals On Wheels.

If you would like assistance from our SNAP Hotline team (including assistance finding food pantries), they are available to help Monday – Thursday from 9:00am to 5:00 pm and on Friday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Give our SNAP Hotline team a call at 215-430-0556. Asistencia también disponible en Español.
