We did it, Friend.

Tribes have been fighting hard to win protections for more than 1.1 million
acres surrounding the Grand Canyon. Thanks to their leadership and the support
of people like you across the country, President Biden officially approved the proposed Baaj Nwaavjo I’tah Kukveni
Grand Canyon monument earlier this week.

The new monument permanently bans new uranium mining within its borders. This
industry has been an issue in the region for years – from contaminating local
drinking water to creating toxic air pollution. We don’t have to worry about uranium mining near the Grand Canyon anymore.

This victory would not have been possible without the tireless work of local
Indigenous leaders, environmental allies across the country, and people like you
who are willing to take action on issues that matter.

Here’s the bottom line, Friend: we can make a difference. Actions matter, and all of them – online or in-person, calls or petition
signatures – all of them contribute. I hope this victory shows you that.

So, let’s all take a moment to celebrate. Get up and do a little dance! Go for a
nice walk! Make yourself a treat! Then, let’s get back to work, because there
are so many more opportunities to change the world for the better!

Thank you,
Raena Garcia
