In mid-2007, I came back from a two-year deployment, and I knew that the job I had before I left for Iraq was not for me anymore. I wanted to keep working with my fellow service members. There was an opening in my area for the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA), so I applied. It was one of the best decisions I have ever made.
I started with MDVA in early 2008 as the Supervisor of the newly formed Tribal Veteran Service Officer (TVSO) Division. In 2010, we merged with the MDVA Outreach Division to form the Field Operations Division, where I was the Supervisor and then Deputy Director until April of this year. I have been the Director of Veterans Education and Occupational Resources since that time.
In my 15+ years with MDVA, we have continued to develop innovative ways to help our fellow Veterans and their families. We can see what is needed in the ever-changing Veterans landscape and can adapt our programs to solve new problems facing our current and former service members. We collaborate with our local partners and build those relationships to solve Veteran problems across the state. Each day is rewarding knowing that we are assisting and giving back to those who have already given so much to our state and the nation.
