Volunteers Cecelia Lyons and Bonnie Shelton quickly helped organize the list of needed items and began collecting donations at our office headquarters. Nonperishable food donations began pouring in from generous Democrats across the county!
Last week, thanks to our collective efforts, a large donation of canned and boxed foods and beverages were delivered to the United Against Poverty Indian River location. Families and community members across the county will benefit from your ample generosity. Thank you to everyone who helped make our July Food Drive event a fabulous success!
This week, the Florida Democratic Party launched new and improved Spanish only channels on social media, updating the name to Partido Demócrata de Florida and creating new channels across Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Threads. Follow at @PartidoDemFL!
Florida Department of Education Update
The Florida Department of Education has approved educational materials from the conservative group PragerU for use in Florida schools. PragerU, founded by Dennis Prager, features content aligned with conservative viewpoints, showcasing perspectives of pundits, activists, and Republican National Committee members. The materials are framed as supplemental resources, not part of the official curriculum adoption for social studies. PragerU Kids defines itself as promoting "Teaching American Values" and expressing concerns about "woke agendas."
Dennis Prager acknowledged in a video that their materials engage in a form of indoctrination, though he questioned the negative aspects of their approach. In 2022, Governor Ron DeSantis signed a bill aimed at countering what he called "woke indoctrination."
PragerU's content, including videos like "Left Vs. Right" and "Myth Mash," is showcased in their 2023 Biannual Report. These materials are aimed at "6th Grade & Up" and discuss differences between conservative and left-wing thinking, as well as debunking what they consider anti-American, leftist lies.
