Have you ever thought what would happen to our country, our communities, and our families without the incredible support, relationships, and friendships immigrant parents and children enrich our country with? Moms especially know how important our immigrant community members are in keeping our families and kids healthy. Here are three simple bills, moving through the U.S. Congress right now, that we’re supporting and we think you should too!

SIGN ON: Help us pass these three bills into law to protect immigrant parents and children!

Tell Congress: Don’t cut Head Start!

Republican leadership in Congress is considering hurting families by cutting funding for our country’s most successful early learning program, Head Start. They want to cut Head Start by $750 million for the next fiscal year, depriving roughly 80,000 children access to this critical program!

Call NOW to tell Congress: NO to a $750 million cut to Head Start!

Medicaid-protection-emergency

Urge U.S. Secretary HHS Xavier Becerra to act to protect Medicaid coverage!

When the pandemic began in early 2020, Congress enacted several laws to help people and states get through the public health and economic crises. One law gave states additional federal Medicaid funding as long as they kept people enrolled in Medicaid coverage during the COVID-19 public health emergency (PHE). The nation’s uninsured rate declined to a historic low of 7.7% in the first quarter of 2023, due in part to the continuous enrollment provision in Medicaid.

Now that the public health emergency has officially ended, the requirement that states provide continuous coverage has ended as well. Tragically, millions of people are losing coverage because they do not realize they need to reenroll or have been deterred by complicated paperwork and administrative procedures imposed by many states.

While we are grateful to the Biden Administration for taking critical steps during the pandemic to make sure people didn’t lose their insurance, we must urge the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) Xavier Becerra to act again to protect Medicaid by providing more oversight of the states.

P.S.– Share your family’s immigration story with us (if you have one) and we’ll put it in front of elected officials to help remind them of our nation’s history! Or maybe you have an immigrant family member or friend who is having a positive impact in your life and community! Your stories will show our nation and policymakers how immigrants are critical to our communities and build support for ensuring that immigrants have a path to citizenship.
