"Trump campaign hires alum of controversial data company"
The data company "shut down in 2018 amid allegations that it set up a scheme to obtain data from nearly 90 million unwitting Facebook users." -- Politico, 02/19/2020

John,

It goes without saying that the internet has completely reshaped the way we work, play, and live. It's also impacted our elections.

In the 2016 election, Cambridge Analytica -- a data firm -- obtained the personal information of tens of millions of Facebook users without their consent. Now, Trump's campaign hired a Cambridge Analytica alum and started a billion-dollar disinformation campaign to re-elect the president.

Suzan is determined to put strong, up-to-date privacy laws in place to make sure as technology advances -- so do our protections. We can't allow the Trump campaign and others to use our personal data to spread disinformation. Privacy and security should be the default when it comes to our most personal information. Do you think we need a federal privacy law to protect all Americans? Take our short poll now: [link removed]

Large media companies like Facebook now hold incredible power when it comes to shaping national discourse and even our elections. And political figures -- especially the president -- need to be held accountable when they spread disinformation and profile voters online. Our democracy depends on it.

Do you agree with Suzan that we need a federal privacy law to protect our data? Let us know what you think: [link removed]

Thank you,

Team DelBene
