We have huge news, team: On Tuesday, Ohio voters soundly rejected the GOP’s anti-democratic plan to try to restrict reproductive freedom.
FIRST: Republicans were terrified that voters will approve a ballot measure protecting the right to choose in Ohio’s constitution.
SO: The Ohio GOP tried to raise the threshold to amend the constitution from a simple majority to 60% of the vote. Republicans scheduled a vote in August, hoping the measure would quietly pass in a low-turnout election.
BUT THEN: Ohio voters saw right through the scheme and showed up in full force to reject the GOP’s effort to change the rules. The proposal failed by a double-digit margin.
NOW: We need to build on this momentum so we can continue defeating GOP efforts to win unearned power across the country by weakening our democracy!

Here’s what Attorney General Eric Holder had to say about this crucial victory:
“Ohioans have sent a clear message at the ballot box: they wholly reject attempts to weaken democracy and they want to protect their rights when politicians elected on gerrymandered maps refuse to do so. . . .
The result continues a pattern we have seen across the country, from the 2022 midterms to the spring election in Wisconsin and now, the August election in Ohio: when democracy is on the ballot, the people of this nation rise to the occasion and participate in order to protect it.
The people used their power—and they prevailed.”
A.G. Holder is 100% right, team: Time after time, voters have made it clear that they’re fed up with GOP efforts to distort our democracy.
But extreme MAGA Republicans aren’t backing down – and neither can we.
The NDRC is continuing to fight across the country to strengthen our democracy by protecting the progress we’ve achieved, preventing GOP efforts to undermine our elections, and propelling fairness. Will you donate now to power all of our work?
