Here are some updates from today.
* The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) asked ([link removed]) for trial to begin on Jan. 2, 2024 in former President Donald Trump's election subversion case.
* In Michigan, nine of the 16 people charged ([link removed]) last month for their role in a false electors plot to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election were arraigned ([link removed]) on felony charges in a state court.
* In North Carolina, officials at the State Board of Elections said ([link removed]) they will eliminate the option for voters to cast a provisional ballot if they didn't know that a photo ID is required to vote under a state law that was recently upheld by the North Carolina Supreme Court. The upcoming municipal elections are the first to be held with the photo ID requirement.
Here’s what to expect coming up.
* A hearing ([link removed]) on a protective order motion in Trump's 2020 election subversion case will be held ([link removed]) tomorrow at 10 am. The DOJ wants to prevent Trump from sharing sensitive material about the case, specifically on social media. The former president has countered that the DOJ is stifling his free speech.
* The pro-voting party’s brief is due ([link removed]) in a case challenging South Carolina’s congressional map for being an unconstitutional racial gerrymander. The case is currently on appeal in the U.S. Supreme Court.
