Running for office is tough. You have to ask a bunch of people for money (like this), and then the other side gets together and says lots of mean things about you.
Having a baby is tough, too. There’s lots of screaming and crying, poop gets everywhere, and you don’t get any sleep. Now that I think about it, it’s a lot like running for office…
John, I’m writing because my friend and former Senate counsel Josh Riley is doing BOTH. First, I laughed and told him he was crazy. When I realized he wasn’t joking, I said I’d help!
Josh is running for Congress in NY-19, and his race could decide the House majority. Will you join me and make a contribution to Josh Riley today to help him win one of the most important races in the country?
Josh is used to doing things the hard way.
He grew up in the district in a working-class neighborhood in Endicott, NY. When the local factories closed, Josh saw his community struggle – but his parents sacrificed a lot and he worked really hard to put himself through school and graduated from Harvard Law School.
In the Senate, Josh and I brought Republicans and Democrats together to actually get stuff done (yes, it really is possible)! The bills we worked on together expanded rights for survivors of domestic abuse and provided new funding for addiction treatment and mental health programs. It wasn’t easy, but Josh was the lead counsel who got them signed into law.
Now, Josh is running for Congress without taking any corporate PAC money. He knows it’s not the easy route, but it’s the right thing to do.
But that means he’s relying on folks like you and me chipping in. And with his time spread thin between the campaign, the new baby and, ya know, still having time to breathe, he’s relying on us now more than ever.
So if you can, please make a contribution to Josh’s campaign today. Josh’s race will be one of the most competitive in the entire country, and he’ll win it with our help.

Thanks,
Al
P.S. I always add a P.S. to these letters to make another ask. If you read this far and haven’t donated already, what are you waiting for?
