John —
Republicans have mounted a spurious legal challenge against Kendra Brooks and Nicolas O’Rourke, our two candidates running for Philadelphia City Council on the Working Families Party ballot line, in a desperate attempt to stop our movement.1
For years, Republicans have benefited from a requirement that two members on the Philadelphia City Council come from a minority party. That is until 2019 when Kendra Brooks was elected to the City Council on the WFP line. Now she’s running for re-election along with Nicolas — and Republicans are terrified.
This frivolous legal challenge came on the same day that billionaire Jeffrey Yass launched a Super PAC in an attempt to flood the airwaves with dark money smears against Kendra and Nicolas. As the richest man in PA, Yass has previously funneled millions to stop progressive candidates in Philadelphia including bankrolling the attempt to impeach Philadelphia DA Larry Krasner. Now he’s back again to try and defeat us.
But we won’t back down. Will you split a donation of $10 between Kendra and Nicolas' campaigns to fight back against Republican attacks, and the billionaire donors who are financing them?

These attacks on Kendra and Nicolas are no surprise. Republicans and their billionaire backers are terrified of two Black, working-class progressives like Kendra and Nicolas who threaten the status quo. Their hope is to stop Kendra and Nic from qualifying for the ballot because they know they can’t win amongst voters.
This lawsuit might be frivolous, but the legal costs to fight it won’t be. Kendra and Nicolas will now have to fight twice as hard to defeat this claim in court, and fight back against Yass’ Super PAC.
But we know we have the people on our side. Just last week we delivered more than 21,000 petition signatures — three times the legal amount needed to qualify for the ballot. And with your support Kendra and Nicolas can launch a massive voter outreach campaign to counteract these attacks and win in November.
Will you split a $10 donation between Kendra and Nicolas' campaigns to help them fight back against Republican attacks and the billionaires bankrolling them?
In solidarity,
Working Families Party
