Last year, after Senate Republicans blocked Democrats’ efforts to protect voting rights, I promised I wouldn’t give up.
I’m still not giving up, John. I’ve been fighting for voting rights since I was in the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee during our country’s Civil Rights Movement. I organized with people like my friend Congressman John Lewis until we saw President Lyndon B. Johnson sign the Voting Rights Act into law -- which turns 58 years old this month.
I’ve been in this fight for a long time, and I’ll continue to be in it for as long as it takes. I recently joined Democrats in reintroducing a sweeping voting rights package that would combat voter suppression, end partisan gerrymandering, and establish national standards for voter registration and early voting.
House Republicans recently introduced their own election reform bill and you know what it would do, John? Disenfranchise voters of color and allow more dark money in our elections -- all while catering to MAGA election deniers.
I know from experience it can feel discouraging that we are still fighting for these same values all these years later, John, but we can’t let those frustrations defeat us. The journey toward justice is never easy or straightforward. I’ve known that ever since I was a student organizer.
We need to keep fighting, John. Will you sign on your support for Democrats' efforts to combat voter suppression and protect voting rights? [[link removed]]
Thank you,
Jim
