John -

To end the era of fossil fuels, we aren't afraid to take on the big fights — which is exactly why we’ve turned our attention to utility companies and the role they play in worsening the climate crisis.

To inform and shape our newest campaign we turned to you, and the rest of our supporters, to find out more about what you think of your utilities. The response we got was amazing:

Over 3,000 people participated in our Utilities Survey — with over 2,000 people taking the time to write out their personal stories.

This enthusiasm and energy is exactly why 350.org is joining this fight. Because people are done living at the mercy of utilities companies, and letting them charge us to burn the planet. Because these state and local fights are laying the groundwork for large-scale wins for economic and climate justice.

This is also why 350.org is partnering on the Pine Tree Power ballot initiative in Maine, which would create a consumer-owned non-profit utility that would replace the state’s two largest utility companies and would include a climate mandate.

John, this could be a game-changer for how utilities are structured across the country — which is why it’s up to ALL of us to work together to pass it.

Whether you live in the Northeast or not, there are several ways you can take action to help us deliver this victory and move one giant step closer towards a fossil free future. Sign up now to learn more:

A national reporter recently asked our team why we’re confident that more states across the country would follow Maine in restructuring their utilities, if we can pass the Pine Tree Power ballot initiative. The answer could not be clearer:

Because people across the U.S. — our survey respondents come from all 50 states — are SO fired up about their utilities and ready for change. History has proven that fights like these are much easier to win when they have already been won somewhere else — which is why it helps so much that Maine is uniquely well positioned to be the first to implement this with a statewide ballot measure. Want to see why utilities are such an important focus for us, at the intersection of economic and climate justice?

Just take a look at some of the toplines from our Utilities Survey ⬇️

We know these results are just a snapshot of what U.S. residents are experiencing, but they still tell us a lot. Utilities are essential services for our life and, as consumers, we should have a say in making our utilities work for us AND our planet. By working together to pass the Pine Tree Power ballot initiative in Maine, we’ll finally have a blueprint that even more states across the country can follow.

In the end, this fight goes beyond Maine, John — which is why we all need to play our part. To learn more and sign up to take action today, just click here:
