*Detroit Man with Ties to Mexican Cartel sentenced 40-60 Years for Drug Possession and
Delivery Conspiracy Charge*

*LANSING* ? Alexander Aceval, 57, of Detroit, was sentenced to 40 to 60 years behind bars after being found guilty of Conspiracy to Possess with Intent to Deliver 1,000 grams or more of cocaine in the Third Circuit Court before the Honorable Judge Margy Van Houten, announced Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel.

He was also sentenced to pay $1,300 in court costs, a $130 crime victim fee, and a $68 state fee.

Aceval was accused of using a mule to help him import and distribute large quantities of cocaine transported in semi-trucks from Mexico by the Mexican drug cartel.?

Michigan State Police (MSP) launched an investigation into Aceval and his accomplice after receiving a tip to its Metro Narcotics Enforcement Team. MSP followed Aceval and the accomplice to a parking lot in an industrial park in Brownstown Township and eventually stopped the pair in Lincoln Park. During the stop, detectives found approximately 40 kilograms of cocaine loaded into a pickup-truck.

?This sentence will serve to keep a repeat offender from continuing to flood our state with illegal and dangerous narcotics, and our communities are safer for it,? said Nessel. ?This conviction and sentence are a result of the excellent work of the Michigan State Police and the Metro Narcotics Enforcement Team, as well as prosecutors in my department, and I?m thankful for their efforts.?

Aceval was previously convicted in 2005 of a similar charge. He was released in 2016 after serving 11 years. As a result of his previous conviction, Aceval?s sentence was enhanced.
