Take part in squirrel season

While you wait for some of Nebraska's most highly anticipated seasons to begin, you can still be hunting now: Squirrel season opened in Nebraska on Aug. 1 and runs through Jan. 31, 2024.

Early season squirrels can be a real challenge to hunt, and squirrel season is also a great opportunity for new hunters. Get out there and enjoy the hunt! Learn more in the Small Game Guide.

Commissioners approve fee increase for state park entry permits

Nebraska Game and Parks approved fee increases for its state park entry permits at its meeting Aug. 4 in Valentine. The commissioners also authorized one lottery and one auction permit for a 2024 bighorn sheep hunting season.

Public asked to report dead, sick big game animals

Nebraska wildlife officials say conditions in certain areas of the state are suitable for the spread of deadly viral diseases among big game populations. They are asking the public to report unexplained death or illnesses of deer, pronghorn, elk and bighorn sheep.
