Good news –
On Tuesday, rural voters across Ohio came out in droves to vote No on Issue 1 in a landslide victory with over 57% of the vote!
Issue 1 was a last minute ploy by far-right extremists to make it more difficult for voters to amend their state constitution by raising the threshold needed to pass from just a simple majority to 60% of the vote – virtually guaranteeing that no ballot initiative would ever pass in the state of Ohio again.
But why would anyone want to make it harder for voters to pass ballot initiatives?
Because MAGA Republicans are obsessed with abortion.
The MAGA radicals in the legislature thought they could guarantee the defeat of an upcoming abortion-rights ballot initiative in November by fooling voters into making it almost impossible to pass.
Instead, Tuesday night's election became a perfect example of rural voters saying they're done being told what to do, think, and believe by out-of-touch, Republican extremists in Columbus.
In state after state, we're supporting rural leaders who call out manipulative voter suppression tactics and stand up for the right to make our own healthcare decisions. Join us in the fight by chipping in $3 today! [[link removed]]
We saw traditionally red counties and former Trump voters oppose Issue 1 by huge margins. Young people waited in lines that literally wrapped around polling places to vote No. In fact, nearly 98% of voters in Ohio State University's precinct voted against Issue 1!
No matter their background or their voting record, Ohioans of all stripes came out to say that they know what's best for themselves, their families, and their communities.
It's crystal clear: rural voters turn out at the ballot box to support voting rights and reproductive rights, and we're going to make sure every rural elected official puts these issues front and center.
Pitch in $3, and together, we're going to stop Republican dirty tricks and let the will of the people prevail! [[link removed]]
We're overjoyed with the outcome of this election and the rural voters who made this victory possible. Onward to many more wins!
