Dear Neighbor, I hope you are well! I wanted to take this opportunity to update you on happenings in the district as well as Harrisburg.

Pennsylvania Budget Update

Last Thursday the Pennsylvania Senate finally returned to Session and officially signed the budget that they and the House passed a month earlier. HB 1100, the expansion of the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program, also was signed in the Senate and the governor then signed both into law.

However, those bills did not include the measure that funds our state-related universities, specifically Penn State, University of Pittsburgh, and Temple University. Furthermore, some program funding is tied up because there are code bills that still need to pass. I am hopeful that the two legislative bodies will work together and supply the critical investments in the programs the people of Pennsylvania deserve such as indigent defense, school mental health grants, teacher stipends, Whole Home Repair and Level-Up funding. 

Summer Collection Drive

It’s the last week for the Summer Collection Drive! We are collecting items like hair care, body wash, toothpaste, dish soap, school supplies, school snacks, juice pouches, canned meals, and cooking staples. Please drop off items now until Tuesday, August 15th at my district office or at one of the municipal buildings.

Thank you to the Patrick J. Kelly Insurance Group in Trappe for dropping off much-needed school supplies for the Summer Collection Drive!

Proclamation Presentation at the Lenape Symposium at Ursinus College

On Tuesday I was proud to present a Proclamation at the Lenape Symposium at Ursinus College acknowledging the ancestral and spiritual homelands of the Delaware Tribe of Indians, Delaware Nation, Delaware Nation at Moraviantown, Stockbridge-Munsee Community, and the Munsee Delaware Nation that the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania now rests on. It also recognizes Ursinus College, the Delaware Tribe of Indians, and members of the five Lenape Tribes for their collaboration on education, outreach, and the preservation of the Lenape.

I was honored to attend a few of the sessions during the Symposium to hear from Lenape leaders, Pennsylvanian historians, community leaders, and even Perkiomen Valley School District discussing the collaborative work they are doing to honor the history of the Lenape in our Commonwealth.

Senator Amanda Cappelletti’s Kids Fair

Last Wednesday, my team happily attended Senator Amanda Cappelletti’s Kids’ Fair at the Elmwood Park Zoo and met a lot of people – and all of the animals as well! There were performances, face painting, food, vendors with resources, and backpack giveaways.
