Dear Friend,
Hi, I’m Pauline. I’m a retired district nurse with many years of experience in
the field.
In my time in the healthcare service, several of my patients asked for help to
die. They were unaware that assisted dying has never been legal in the UK. So, I
was unable to help end their pain, in spite of excellent support from cancer
nurses, and many suffered a protracted death against their wishes. I felt more like a bully than a nurse.
Having seen terminally ill people endure agonising and undignified deaths, I
knew the current law was cruel. I had to do something to change it. That’s why I started the Bath and Bristol Dignity in Dying group in 2014.

Since the group began, we’ve held local demonstrations in support of assisted
dying. I’ve had really important conversations with local faith leaders. Many of
my letters have been featured in my local paper, to ensure assisted dying
stories are not dominated by our opponents.
I’ve also had regular contact with my MP. Political parties are currently
choosing their candidates for the next general election. It’s more important
than ever that local groups are active and having conversations with their local
candidates about assisted dying.
{USER_DATA~FIRST NAME~FRIEND}, WILL YOU JOIN YOUR LOCAL DIGNITY IN DYING GROUP
TODAY AND HELP US WIN A MAJORITY FOR ASSISTED DYING IN THE NEXT PARLIAMENT?
Yes, I'll join my group >>

Whether it’s handing out leaflets, sharing our stories or donating, we can all
play our part in bringing a compassionate assisted dying law to the UK. Whatever
role suits you best, your help is so greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Warm wishes,
Pauline Carroll
