Picture this: big, round eyes stare at you from a tree. Proud fluffy feathers dotted with white flecks cover the small body of a northern spotted owl, hoo-ing as it perches on a branch.

But suddenly – trees CRASH to the ground! A mechanical screeching BOOMS through the air. Spinning metal machines have come to clear-cut this poor owl’s forest. It flies away from the wreckage of its home, lost and terrified.

The Trump Administration rolled back Endangered Species Act rules that protected critical habitat for vulnerable species like the northern spotted owl. President Biden has the power to restore these protections, but he hasn’t done it yet. We have just DAYS LEFT to submit comments asking President Biden to strengthen the ESA before his new rules are finalized.

Many threatened animals rely on critical habitats that were once protected under the ESA – and these protections blocked greedy fossil fuel companies from exploiting the land for profit. But Trump’s rules opened it up to fracking, drilling, and mining that creates pollution and harms nearby communities in addition to the endangered animals. 

Contaminated drinking water. Climate-warming emissions. Destroyed public lands. These are just a few of the impacts the ESA habitat protections has helped prevent. Trump changed that – but President Biden could help change it back. We need 3,872 more signatures to hit our goal and help PROTECT public lands, people, and endangered wildlife from corporate greed.
