Dear
Reader,
There’s nothing quite like Press Day at the FIRST THINGS office. After weeks—months—of hard work, the frenzy of finalizing an issue gives way to the celebration of a job well done.

Yet the salutary effects extend beyond the joy of accomplishing a shared goal and the camaraderie of Press Day lunch. Press Day also anchors the FIRST THINGS calendar and focuses our institutional priorities.

What if you gave a similar shape to your charitable giving?

I’m writing to entreat your support for FIRST THINGS in a new way. Call it “the Press Day way.” As part of our inaugural Founder’s Day appeal, would you consider setting up a monthly, recurring charitable gift to FIRST THINGS?

Simply choose the “Monthly” option on our giving page here to set up your recurring gift ([link removed]) ! Your contribution will provide vital, sustaining support for our work here at FIRST THINGS.

Between daily web articles, semi-weekly podcasts, and our monthly print magazine, we hope to, in our small way, equip readers like you to grow in virtue and holiness with each passing day. The idea that forming good habits is central to virtue is not a new one (Aristotle would like a word!), but it bears repeating in our age of digital mediation and distraction.

Whether or not you choose to support FIRST THINGS with a recurring gift, I do hope that you’ll give thought to my question above. The monthly rhythm that Press Day begets is of great benefit to us; perhaps a similar rhythm will benefit you.

That said . . . for a monthly magazine, FIRST THINGS doesn’t have very many monthly donors. To be clear, I lay the blame for this firmly at our feet, not yours. It’s not something we’ve done a good job of promoting.

But perhaps you’d be willing to help us remedy this by setting up a monthly, recurring gift to FIRST THINGS today. Of course, one-time gifts are also most welcome! Thank you in advance for your support.
