Who is Sister District DC/VA/MD?
|
We are volunteers who agree thatĀ elections for state legislatures are where the real change is made, and understand theĀ impact small efforts and donations can makeĀ in these critical elections.
Our Steering Committee coordinates our efforts across the DC/VA/MD area. One of our key Committee members is our Fundraising Co-Chair, Alan Farkas.

About Alan
Ā
Alan hails from Cleveland, Ohio, and his first full-time job was working on the campaign staff of Democratic candidate for Governor of Ohio, John Gilligan, elected in 1970. Alan served as executive director for the Governorās Environmental Task Force, chaired by John Glenn, as environmental affairs advisor to the Governor, and as a deputy director of a newly-created Ohio EPA. His wife of now 53 years served as chief of staff for the First Lady. They were bitten by the political bug early on and have come to see Sister District Project as the best way to remain politically engaged.
Ā
Ā
|
Alan joined Booz Allen & Hamilton in 1975, where he established an environmental protection consulting practice. After Booz Allen, he started a management consulting firm advising mainly civil engineering consulting firms on strategy and organizational development. In addition to consulting, his firm helped to start and manage two trade associations and hosted two national invitation-only conferences for CEOs and CIOs of engineering firms. Upon retirement, he served on the Board of Directors of the international non-profit, Water for People.
Ā
He and his wife have one daughter and three grandchildren (ages 22 ā 19). Current passions include tennis and golf, studying French, and international travel.
|
Sister Districtās mission is to imagine, build, and expand progressive power in state legislatures, and we know that organizing around elections is just one piece of the puzzle.
Thatās why weāre amplifying the voices of local lawmakers, educating the public about the importance of state leaders and policies, and inspiring people to deepen their civic engagement ā especially locally and down-ballot.
There is power in storytelling, and the more people we bring into this fight, the more powerful our movement will become. We hope you will join us in our efforts!
