Dear John,
When I was considering running for Congress, we sat the family down at the kitchen table to talk it through.
The thing I remember most about that conversation was a question from my nine-year-old daughter, Evie: "Mom, if you do this, are people going to hate us?"
The sad truth is, she had a point.
The response I gave is something that I repeat often now: That when you stand up for what you believe is right, there will always be people who will and won't like you. Standing up means having the courage to be disliked.
I’m running for Congress because we need to stand up for our democracy, our middle class, and our kids. And regardless of the emails or comments questioning my motivations or my ability to campaign and be a good mom (yes, that’s happened) – I’m not backing down.
And I want to thank you for standing with me. Every time I see someone pitch in $10 or get a kind response to one of our emails, it helps drown out the haters and detractors because I know we’re standing tall together.
So here’s the ask: Will you keep being the support system that keeps us going by chipping in $5?

(Can't chip in right now? That's ok! Talk to your friends and neighbors; spread the word about what we’re doing and why. Tell them we’re standing up for our way of life here in Northern and Upper Michigan - for our families and ourselves- and we’re not stopping any time soon.)
Together, we are setting an example for the next generation.
Gratefully,
Callie
