As a doctor, I was outraged that our veterans for years have had to go without some of the most essential medical care because of the lack of funds and benefits. Many of our armed forces are suffering the long term health effects of toxic fumes and burn pits on military bases—something they couldn’t get treatment for at the VA.
I was proud to support the PACT Act, because it directly deals with this issue. It improves the health outcomes for the people who defended our country in several armed conflicts.
Burn pits can cause extreme health effects that may shorten veterans’ lives—brain cancer, heart disease, lung disease, and more are all known issues stemming from exposure.
All Americans—and especially those who serve our country—deserve access to quality health care and to not have serious illnesses ignored because they’re not covered for that.
Veterans sacrificed their own health and wellbeing to protect us from harm. The least we can do is ensure they have the proper care available to them.
Be well,
Ami
