Folks,
Last night, Ohioans turned out to vote in droves to reject an anti-democracy attempt by the GOP to take power away from the people.
ICYMI: A Republican-backed ballot measure that would make passing constitutional amendments harder, including amendments to protect abortion rights, failed after an overwhelming majority of people voted against it.
This huge win means that Ohioans are one step closer to enshrining reproductive rights in their state’s constitution this November, but also serves as a testament to why community organizing matters.
Ohio Republicans were hoping that holding an off-year election in August would mean folks wouldn’t be paying attention to local politics, and thought it would be easier to pass this anti-democratic power grab.
But activists throughout Ohio have been raising awareness around this ballot measure for months, and their work getting the vote out ahead of yesterday’s crucial election wouldn’t have been possible without grassroots support.
That’s why we’re asking: Can you pitch in $10 now in honor of yesterday’s huge win to fuel our efforts to increase civic engagement, fight for reproductive rights, and rally around important local issues all year long?
