Dear John,
Last week I visited Michigan and left with some dizzying memories. From the MCNP Soup Kitchen (see video below!) to Seed and Soul Community Garden in Port Huron to Nandi’s Knowledge Cafe in Highland Park to scores of new friends in Bloomfield Hills and Detroit, I left re-inspired with the possibilities for a renewed America.
Americans are decent people. We’re certainly no better than anyone else, but neither are we any worse. Put any two of us together and we are likely to get around to a deep and meaningful conversation. But when it comes to our collective experience and public dialogue, it’s as though we have been trained to keep things shallow, to simply go along with the system as it is.
More and more people are awakening from the intellectual and emotional slumber that has set in among us, however. People are ready to rise, to take care of each other, to build community, and to repair our country. I see it everywhere I go, and it delights me that so many people think of this campaign as an aspect of that movement.
Our campaign is on the move, and the more we succeed the more we will be able to help the country begin again.
Please keep fueling the movement. Your support is deeply appreciated, and what we are doing here truly matters.
