Hi John – yesterday, Ohioans voted to stop an anti-democratic constitutional amendment aimed at making it harder for us to enshrine reproductive rights in our state's constitution. In doing so, they rejected special interests and made sure democracy remained where it belongs – in the hands of the voters, not the rich and powerful.
That’s why I’m in this fight, John, to give a voice to workers and families. I grew up in Mansfield, Ohio, in a community of ironworkers, carpenters, autoworkers, and electricians. I spent summers working on my family's farm. Today, I live in Cleveland with my wife, Connie, and our two rescue dogs, Franklin and Walter.
I’ll be honest with you, John: Over the years, in Ohio, we've seen manufacturing jobs shipped overseas because of bad trade deals, prices skyrocketing as wages failed to keep up, and hopes for a comfortable retirement dashed. That's why I've devoted my life to fighting for the Dignity of Work – the idea that hard work should pay off for everyone, no matter who you are, where you live, or what kind of work you do.
Every day in the Senate, I’m fighting for you. But I’m facing my toughest race yet, and I need your help to win. Will you chip in $5 or more now – split between my campaign and Catherine's – so I can keep up the fight in Ohio and defend the Senate for Democrats?
Right now, Mitch McConnell and the GOP need to flip only two seats to retake Senate control – and experts at Politico say it could all come down to Ohio. Last year’s Senate race here was one of the most costly in the nation, and NBC News reports this one could be “even nastier and more expensive.”
That's why I simply cannot win this race – and Democrats simply cannot hold on to our narrow Senate majority – without grassroots support from folks like you. As one of the most vulnerable senators in the country, I'm personally asking:
Will you please split $5 between my campaign and Catherine's to help us hit our midnight fundraising goal, power our reelection campaign to victory, and keep the Senate blue?
This is gonna be a heck of a fight, but with you by my side, I know we can beat the odds and continue making much-needed progress for workers and families. Thanks for being on our team.
With gratitude,
Sherrod
