I knew from the moment I announced that I would run for reelection that the gun lobby would be after me.

They held Washington hostage for 30 years, blocking every serious attempt at gun safety legislation, until I beat them last summer. They won’t go down without a fight.

When I announced, I said, “The status quo fights back. And I know that the billionaires and the gun companies are going to throw the kitchen sink at me in this campaign.”

And it’s true. I know the gun lobby wants nothing more than to defeat me. There are Republicans in Connecticut desperate for an opening to challenge me.
