This is big, John.
Last night, voters in Ohio sent a clear message against anti-choice extremism and in defense of democracy and a woman’s right to control her own body.
Reproductive rights are on the ballot in 2024, and this massive victory makes it clear that momentum is on our side. Will you send in $3 to support a pro-choice champion in CA-47?
Here’s what happened:
Ohio Republicans rammed through a six-week abortion ban last summer in the wake of
Roe v. Wade being overturned. Voters were stunned, but quickly organized and gathered signatures for a ballot amendment to guarantee abortion access in their state.
Republicans knew their ban was on thin ice, so they tried to cheat the system. Last night's undemocratic ballot measure would have raised the threshold necessary to pass an amendment.
Thanks to local organizing efforts, Republicans failed.
This episode highlights just how far extremists are willing to go to strip away reproductive rights -- and that includes Republicans in Congress. They will use every trick in the book, even if it means weakening democracy itself to impose their world view.
My likely Republican opponent Scott Baugh is on the record opposing abortion “in any form” -- with no exceptions even for rape or incest. This is the same candidate who gave Katie Porter a run for her money in 2022 and now has the full weight of the national Republican Party behind him.
Last night’s election makes it clear that we have momentum, but we need to stay engaged and organized. So today, I am personally asking you to keep our momentum up in CA-47. Make a $3 donation to keep this seat blue and protect reproductive rights in Congress.
