I’m one of more than six million pigs forcibly bred by the pork industry at any given time in the U.S. alone. I’m impregnated at least twice a year, giving birth to at least 10 piglets each time.
I’ve lived at a Holden Farms facility for most of my life. As shown by Animal Outlook’s latest undercover investigation, my life is one of extreme misery and egregious cruelty.
I spend my days in a metal crate unable to turn around. Once my babies are born, we’re separated by the bars of my crate. I have no choice but to watch them while they have their tails cut off with no pain relief, and the testicles of my baby boys are ripped out by hand. Their screams are unbearable. Sick and injured piglets are left to suffer overnight before being gassed to death. These atrocities don’t just happen at Holden Farms - many are standard practice in the pork industry.
I watched in horror as my piglet had his tail cut off
So-called “breeding sows” like me are considered money-making machines. We’re given no kindness or respect. This is not merely apathy from large corporations or the managers and workers at facilities like Holden Farms. It is unequivocally horrendous cruelty and atrocious neglect.
We are regularly hit, kicked, slapped, punched, and beaten with paddles. Some of us are injured or killed by cage systems. I was forced to witness a sow become trapped between the bars of her crate, languish there, and die due to neglect. Her body was then sawed in half right in front of us. We receive little medical care and many of us suffer from open sores and prolapses so severe that our internal organs hang from our bodies.
The only way to end this cruelty is to stop participating in animal agriculture by choosing a vegan diet. Your support of Animal Outlook with a gift today can help protect animals like me. Will you stand with us?
Please help me. Without you, the future is incredibly bleak for me, my babies, and millions of others just like us.
With gratitude.
Suzie
