ICYMI: Governor Kelly Speaks on Job
Creation and Retention

*KEY QUOTE:*" "[Governor Kelly's] office said the 60,000 jobs is a milestone which 'continues the record-breaking economic development success the state has experienced' under Kelly’s administration and represents more than $16.7 billion in private-sector investment that compromises more than 940 announced projects 'that include both international corporations placing operations in the Sunflower State and Kansas companies choosing to expand right here at home.'""

* Since Kelly took office in 2019, the Office of the Governor says they have created and/or retained about 60,000 jobs within the state.

* Over the course of [the Kelly Administration] they’ve invested hundreds of millions of dollars into affordable and moderate-income housing and have modified other state incentives to encourage developers to either build new or to restore older housing units.

* Kelly said they recognize the significance of what childcare and early childhood issues are, and one of the first things she did when she came into office for her second term was to sign an executive order creating the Early Childhood Transition Taskforce.

* To attract workers to the state, Kelly said they have done some things in the Department of Commerce, including creating the Office of Rural Prosperity, which works closely with local economic development offices and elected leaders in rural communities in particular.

* Additionally, her administration has created the Office of Broadband Development, which will hopefully expand broadband access across the state but particularly into rural communities.
