🏗️ 5 Years of SB35: More Affordable Housing, Faster
In 2017, with support from NPH, SB35 (Wiener)was passed to streamline multifamily infill development in jurisdictions that are not meeting their housing production goals.
📑 The Terner Centerrecently released a paper that looks back on the last five years of SB35 implementation and notes the success of the legislation. The paper found that over 18,000 new homes have either been approved or had an application pending for streamlining under this law between 2018 and 2021.
🌄 The impacts of SB35 are of particular interest since the law is set to sunset in 2026. SB 423 (Wiener), introduced earlier this year, proposes to extend and amend the streamlined approval process initiated under SB 35.
